21 June 2021, Bangkok – Assoc. Prof. Dr. Singh Intrachooto, Chief Advisor to Research & Innovation for Sustainability Center (RISC) and Founding Director of the Creative Center for Eco-Design and the Scrap Lab at Kasetsart University, gave an interview on “Sustainable and Livable Low-Carbon Cities” on Zoom and Facebook Live for Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organization.

Dr. Singh spoke on the “New Normal” in urban lifestyles, explaining 4 characteristics of low-carbon societies: 1. Collecting and analyzing data from activities that release carbon and the use of fossil fuels, to see where emissions can be reduced; 2. Policy formulation and control criteria for industrial carbon emissions; 3. Creating awareness of the impact from carbon emissions to support social activities to reduce them; 4. Technology and innovation to help reduce emissions.

He also spoke on development strategy and innovations to help reduce carbon emissions, giving the example of The Forestias by MQDC. This world-first green district is designed in every aspect for sustainability. The development cuts carbon emissions through having a forest at its center and through using a district cooling system, installing solar cells, and upcycling materials from ocean waste to make roads within the project.

The Forestias will remove an estimated 83,000 tCO2e/year. The project also aims to spread research knowledge to build public support for a low-carbon society.
