16 July 2021, Bangkok – Assoc. Prof. Dr. Singh Intrachooto, Chief Advisor to Research & Innovation for Sustainability Center (RISC), spoke at “DRIA Talk: ‘Adaptive Urbanization, Regenerative Landscapes’ Mitigating the Impact on Growing Cities and Their Rural Surroundings” on Zoom and Facebook Live by Designing Resilience in Asia.

The interview shared resilience concepts for developing future cities. Dr. Singh spoke on “Resilience Framework for Property Development” covering real estate design concepts for preparing for climate change. He defined resilience and addressed its applications in different contexts.

Dr. Singh spoke on how to help cities adapt to global changes, including future disasters. He also discussed attitudes to adaptation and the application of the resilience concept in Thailand in 3 areas:

1. Living & Infrastructure, such as traffic, energy, education, consumer goods, and living places.

2. Nature & Environment, such as natural disasters, air pollution, water quality, floods, epidemics, droughts, climate change, and loss of biodiversity.

3. Society & Economy, such as poverty, safety, peace.

Resilience city solutions in real estate include building water reservoirs to cope with drought, setting up city air purifiers, creating efficient waste-management systems, designing to prevent flooding, carrying out biodiversity studies before development, designing buildings to reduce the risk of infection, promoting safe consumption sources, creating mental health treatment facilities, and developing safety standards in society and online.

Dr. Singh added that this framework will help solve problems in each category. He gave the example of The Forestias by MQDC, a world-first green district that applies the resilience concept to support health, happiness, and sustainability.
